Biography
Dr. Heidi Fischer spent her childhood in the small mid-western town of Hannibal, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri-Columbia on a Track and Field Scholarship. She was graduated Summa Cum Laude and elected to Phi Beta Kappa. The next year was spent in Leeds, England at University on a Rotary International Scholarship.

Dr. Fischer pursued her medical training at Harvard Medical School. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Washington University Eye Center in St Louis, MO. After completing the surgical residency, she returned to her hometown of Hannibal, MO and worked with the local ophthalmologist for 2 years. In 1999, Dr. Fischer joined a group practice at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA. In 2008, she left the group to form her own practice, Fischer Eye Care, in nearby Wellesley, MA. In January 2016, Dr. Eric Putnoi assumed ownership of the practice.
In January 2022, Dr Fischer joined the practice of Dr Marc Leibole,
Eye Care and Cataract Surgery of Newton-Wellesley, 40 Walnut Street, Wellesley Lower Falls, MA.

Dr Fischer was honored to be named the Massachusetts Medical Society
Community Clinician of the Year in 2016.
